Chairman, Rob Yong, has reiterated that there is no pressure on the Eastwood management or players despite their recent slump in form.
“I want the management and players to enjoy the remainder of this season and would like to see a few more smiles on the field. I think we are in with a great shout of making the play-offs, but there is no pressure on the team as far as I am concerned, next season may be a different matter, so let’s just relax and give it a go for the next 13 league games.”
Yong believes that the current squad that Cox has assembled is already the strongest it has ever been since he joined the club.
“I think I have been guilty of encouraging Paul to make new signings too quickly and too often, sometimes after a bad result or performance! Now we are both being more disciplined, taking a couple of days to let games sink in and therefore avoiding knee jerk reactions. We have a simple way of working, Paul identifies the players that he wants and then I work hard to get these players for him, this has left the squad a bit thin at times, but it’s a much better way to operate in the long term.”
Yong says that he wants to see much more stability in the playing personnel next season, with less comings and goings.
“Since I joined the club it has been a bit like a revolving door, we do not want this to continue, it’s important for players to have time to develop relationships with the club, the management and the supporters. I think Paul intends to retain a significant number of the current squad for next season which will good for continuity, with 4 or 5 more quality additions, this should hopefully mean a much more stable squad going forward.
Yong revealed another new signing could arrive this week.
“We’ve shaken hands and agreed a deal verbally with the player, but there are still a few complications with his current club, so we will have to wait and see what happens. If all goes to plan, he will be sign before the Stafford game, however, as we know, things rarely go to plan in this football business.” |
